SETTING UP A MORPHO BIOMETRIC READER WITH AN I-NET CONTROLLER

This document will cover how to set up a Morpho biometric reader with an I-Net controller using the direct integration in Identity Access.

What you will need:

  1. Morpho Biometric reader (Sigma, Sigma Lite, Sigma Extreme)
  2. Computer running Identity Access (IA) with a professional or enterprise license, please contact sales@controlsoft.com if you need to obtain a license.
  3. I-Net controller

Before starting this process, please ensure you have your I-Net controller setup in Identity Access and your Identity Access Professional/Enterprise license is applied.

WIRING

Wiring a sigma Lite reader into an I-NET is very simple. We need data, power and a network connection. The first decision you need to make is how you are going to power the Sigma Lite. You can either power it with Power Over Ethernet (POE) or with a standard power supply. Do not power the reader from the Wiegand port on your I-NET controller. It is not capable of delivering enough current to the Sigma Lite reader.

The reader requires 1 Amp @ 12 volts. Please ensure your power supply or POE switch can deliver this.

After the choice of power has been made, you need to connect the device to the I-Net controller. You must connect Ground, data 0, data 1 and the green LED. We recommend using BELDEN 9538 for any Wiegand readers.

Depending on what Sigma reader you have, the cores on the reader's pigtail may differ. Please consult your reader manual to work out which cores to use.

ADDRESSING THE READER

Once the reader is powered up, we must give it an address on the network. If the reader was manufactured in 2017 or after, the reader will have an address of 192.168.1.10 out of the box. If the reader was manufactured before 2017, the address will be 134.1.32.214.

Please ensure the computer you want to configure the reader from can communicate with the reader. You can test the communication between the devices by pinging the address from Command Prompt. Launch Command Prompt and type ping 192.168.1.10. if you get a reply, this confirms that they are able to communicate. If you are unable to communicate, please seek networking assistance.

Within Identity Access select Tools -

  1. Open Morpho Configurator

  2. Enter the IP Address and click 'Connect'

  3. When connected you will see the current IP address details.

  4. Type the IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway and DNS you require, you may need to check with the sites the IT team if you are unsure.
  5. Click on  ‘Update’.
  6. Give the device a few seconds and it will be on its new address.

After changing the address, please ensure your computer can communicate with the device.

ADDING THE READER

First, you must set up a standard door and reader in the IA software. The easiest way to do this is to use the door wizard. Follow the steps below to use the door wizard:

  1. Go to the Setup Tab, then the controller's tab. Once in the controller's tab, highlight the controller that you are adding the Biometric reader to.

  1. Now click the ‘Door Wizard’ icon. Shown below.

  1. Select if you want it to add 1 door with 1 reader, 1 door with 2 readers or 2 doors with 1 reader each. For this demonstration, I will select, 1 door with 1 reader. We then give the door a name.

  1. Once done, please click accept.
  2. If you navigate to the doors and readers tabs, you will be able to see the newly created door and reader. You may need to amend the door and readers properties depending on your setup.
  3. Please go to the setup tab, followed by the Morpho Readers tab. Then click the ‘plus’ symbol to add a new reader.

  1. Give the door a name, type the IP address of the Biometric reader and select the required Device Profile. Once done, click Accept. Repeat step 6 and 7 to add more readers if needed.

GROUP ACCESS

Now you need to create an Access Group. Follow the steps below:

  1. Please go to the Management tab, and click the group's tab.
  2. Click the green add symbol to create a new group (or amend an existing one).
  3. Go to the Morpho Readers tab and select the reader, this will automatically select the door reader as well.

  1. Click Accept to save.

You are now ready to enrol and test the system.

ENROLLING BIOMETRICS

Follow the steps below to enrol an employee:

Ensure your USB enrolment reader is plugged in if you are enrolling at the PC.

  1. Go to the Management tab followed by the employee tab.
  2. Click the add employee button (green plus symbol).
  3. Give the employee a name, then if this is a bio only user, click the button shown below (3) to generate a number or enter the card number you intend to use on the device as the Primary token number. Give the employee access to the group (4).
Once you have done this, click the Fingerprints tab on the left (5)

  1. Select the enrolment device and then click the required finger and select ‘Assign’.

  1. Each finger must be presented to the reader 3 times for accurate enrolment. See the example below. Fingerprints blurred for privacy.

  1. Below is an example of a good enrolment. If your score is below 100, you should try and re-enrol with a better score.

If people have particularly dry hands, this can give you a bad enrolment, you may need to issue a card for these users so ensure you have a Sigma series reader with a built-in card reader.

  1. After enrolling the fingerprints, click accept to download the fingerprints to the reader. Give the reader around a minute for it to complete the download.

  1. Please proceed to test the reader.
