Knowledge base 186: IDEMIA Morpho Readers with Identity Access 9

This document will cover how to set up an IDEMIA biometric reader using direct integration in Identity Access.

Requirements
An IDEMIA Biometric reader (Sigma Wide, Sigma Lite, Sigma Lite + or Sigma Extreme)
PC running Identity Access (IA) with a Professional or Enterprise license.

Within Identity Access an IDEMIA reader can either be used in Access Control Unit (ACU) mode or Standalone Mode. ACU mode is recommended to be used on higher security doors i.e. perimeter doors or doors that require advanced access control features, such as Time Zones or Lockdowns. Standalone mode is a more cost-effective option and is great for lesser security doors, such as internal office doors or time and attendance stations.

* Sigma Series readers can be powered from a +12v source, the iNet’s “LOCK” connector OR PoE.
Never power IDEMIA readers from the iNet’s reader port as it cannot supply the required current.
Always use BELDEN 9538 or an equivalent cable between the IDEMIA reader and the controller.
A network connection is required to the reader for biometric templates to be downloaded to the device.

Wiring - Standalone Mode

Addressing the reader

Once the reader is powered up, we must give it an address on the network. By default, the reader will have a static IP address of 192.168.1.10 therefore your PC must be in the same IP range to communicate with the device.

1. On the Identity Access PC, in the Windows search bar type "Control Panel". Select the Control Panel app.

2. In the top right hand corner, ensure "View by" has "Large Icons" checked. Select "Network and Sharing Centre".

3. Select "Change adapter settings" on the left hand pane

4. Right click on "Ethernet" and select "Properties"

5. Scroll down and select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", then select "Properties".

6. Select "Use the Following IP Address". For the "IP address" type in "192.168.1.100". For the "Subnet mask" type in "255.255.255.0". The Default Gateway, Preferred DNS and Alternate DNS settings can remain blank.

7. Open Morpho Configurator

8. Ensure the IP address is correct and click 'Connect'

9. When connected you will see the current IP address details.

10. Type the IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway and DNS you require, you may need to check with the sites the IT team if you are unsure.
11. Click on  ‘Update’.
12. Give the device a few seconds and it will be on its new address.

After changing the address, please ensure your computer can communicate with the device and change the PC network settings back to as they were.

Adding the reader to Identity Access

1. Within Identity Access, go to System and select "Morpho Readers". Then click the ‘plus' symbol to add a new reader.

2. Give the Reader a name, type the IP address of the Biometric reader and select the required Device Profile. Once done, click Accept.
If you are using the reader with Cards/Fobs there are specific modes for the card type you may have. Listed in the appendix of this guide is a list of all device modes and what they are used for.

Enrolling Fingerprints in Identity Access

Ensure your USB enrolment reader is plugged in if you are enrolling at the PC.

1. Go to User Admin and select Employees
2. Click the 'plus' symbol
3. Give the employee a name, then if this is a bio only user, click the button shown below (3) to generate a number or enter the card number you intend to use on the device as the Primary token number. Give the employee access to the group (4).
4. Once you have done this, click the Fingerprints tab on the left (5)

5. Select the enrolment device and then click the required finger and select ‘Assign’.

6. Each finger must be presented to the reader 3 times for accurate enrolment. See the example below. Fingerprints blurred for privacy.

Below is an example of a good enrolment. If your score is below 100, you should try and re-enrol with a better score.

If people have particularly dry hands, this can give you a bad enrolment, you may need to issue a card for these users so ensure you have a Sigma series reader with a built-in card reader.

After enrolling the fingerprints, click "Accept" to download the fingerprints to the reader. Give the reader around a minute for it to complete the download.
