Knowledge base 176: Identity Access 9 & HID OSDP guide

This is a comprehensive guide which will explain how to install and configure OSDP V1 readers with an iNet controller.

Requirements:
Identity Access
iNet Controller
HID Reader – OSDP and Bluetooth compatible
iPhone or Android Device – requires an internet connection and Bluetooth

Wiring and hardware guide for HID Signo readers

As shown above, the rotary switch must be set to ZERO.

On the bank of four drop switches, 1, 2, 3, and 4 must all be OFF.

The OSDP readers are connected to RS-485 port A.

HID Signo Reader wiring:

HID Signo D1/WHITE = RS485 +

HID Signo D0/GREEN = RS485 -

RED = 12V POWER

BLACK = NEGATIVE

Wiring and Hardware Configuration for HID SE Readers

HID SE Reader wiring:

SE Reader RED/GREEN  = RS485 +
SE Reader TAN = RS485 -
RED = 12V POWER
BLACK = NEGATIVE

Note: For OSDP cable lengths greater than 200ft. (61M) or EMF interference, install 120Ω +/- 2Ω resistor across RS-485 termination ends and turn the iNet RS485 termination switches to ON.

HID Reader Manager Application

Search the App Store (IOS) or Play Store (Android) for 'HID Reader Manager' and install it. Once installed, it will ask you to register. Please register, and contact Controlsoft support with which email address you have used to register. We will then grant you access to use our Controlsoft mobile key. This means you will now be able to configure HID BLE readers that are enabled with Controlsoft keys.
Next, ensure your phones Bluetooth is enabled before following the steps below:

1)Launch the HID Reader Manager App on your mobile device. Click Scan for readers.

2)Tap the reader you want to connect to.

3)Click Locate.

4)The reader will begin to beep. Ensure that the reader which is beeping is the one you want to configure.

5)If this is the correct reader, click inspect.

6)Click Detailed configuration.

7)Click Communication protocol.

8)Toggle ON OSDP. This will toggle OFF Wiegand automatically.
Set the Spec Compliance to V1 and set a unique address (do not use 0).
Set the baud rate to
115200
Now click
Add to the template.

9)Now click Apply Selected Items.

10)Wait for the data to be sent to the reader.

11)Close the app.

Before you can setup and configure your OSDP readers, you must have Identity Access installed. If Identity Access is not installed, click here to see how it’s done.

Configuring the iNet controller

      1)      In Identity Access, click the Setup tab, and then the Controllers tab. If you have already added a controller, double click on it to edit its properties. If you have not added the controller and know the IP address of it, click the green add symbol to add it in. If it is a new controller on DHCP, watch this video to see how to add it in: https://youtu.be/IoQg4BLYr_U - This will also explain how to add in a door, reader and access group.

2)  Select the address you want to populate with an OSDP reader and then click the OSDP reader button. Populate all the relevant OSDP addresses. Once done, click Accept.

 3) Now, you need to edit your reader properties to define its OSDP reader address. Go to the Setup tab followed by the Reader tab. Now select the RS485 drop down menu and select the appropriate reader address. Shown below.

Enrol a user and give them access to the Group. Ensure the reader is in the group and then test the reader is working.
